Holiday Foods for Dogs

Holiday Foods for Dogs

It's that time of year where the family gathers around the kitchen table to celebrate all that they are thankful for and to enjoy a delicious meal. Whether you're celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or another holiday, please keep your dog in mind! As dog parents it's our job to keep our dogs safe. That means educating ourselves on what foods are dog safe and what can be toxic.

Here is a basic list of holiday foods that are safe in moderation for your dog and a list of foods that your dog should absolutely avoid.

Dog safe in moderation:
Apples (peeled, cored, no seeds), broccoli, blueberries, cranberries, celery, carrots, green beans, peas, pumpkin (puree), sweet potatoes (plain), turkey (no skin, fat or bones).

Not safe for dogs (can be toxic):
Alcohol, butter, casseroles, chocolate, cranberry sauce, corn on the cob, gravy, grapes, nuts, raisins, sugar, spices, seasonings, stuffing.

Let's face it, most of us are going to sneak our dog a treat this holiday season. Let's make sure it's a safe one!
